Map-based Search:

Users can undertake map-based searches from either the Search by Map tab on the TDDP Home page (shown in the screenshots below), or via the TDDP Search Page. The search operates the same way using either option, with the only difference being a larger number of result filtering options when users search from the Search page.

On both pages, there are two ways to search for data via location:

  1. Searching via Region and sub-region, and

  2. Drawing a polygon/shape on the map to define a search area.

Searching by Regions

When searching via the regions facet, users are given multiple options for types of regions (e.g. States and Territories, Bioregions etc), and can then use the sub-region facet to select the specific region they wish to find records for. On selection, the map will zoom to this region and will highlight the region itself.

If the user is searching from the Search page, datasets containing records from within the region will be shown as search results beneath the map. If searching from the Search by Map on the TDDP Home page (shown in the screenshot below), the user will need to select “View Results” to be redirected to the Search results page.

Drawing Shapes on the Map

Users can also search for data by drawing a shape on the map. To do this, select the edit image-20250130-012651.png button on the map and use either the “Draw Rectangle” image-20241204-230052.png or “Draw Polygon” image-20241204-230038.png button on the left of the map. If using the “Draw Polygon” option, each click on the map will add a boundary point for the polygon. To close the polygon, double click where the final point should be located on the map or click on the first point added.

Once a shape (either rectangle or polygon) has been added to the map, users have the option to either edit image-20241204-230549.png or delete image-20241204-230604.png it. If editing the shape, users will also be able to choose whether to save their edits to the shape on the map image-20241204-230745.png , or discard them and return to their originally drawn one image-20241204-230757.png .

When happy with the shape added, users can select the “View Results” button, which will redirect to the search results page.
