Users can undertake map-based searches from either the Search by Map “Search By Map” tab on the TDDP Home page (shown in the screenshots below), or via the TDDP Search Page. The search operates the same way using either option, with the only difference being a larger number of result filtering options when users search from the Search page.

On both pages, there are two ways to search for data via location:

map-based search enables users to search for datasets and related metadata where the spatial extent intercepts with the reference administrative areas. Furthermore, the user can draw a bounding box on the Australian map to find the list of datasets whose spatial extent intercepts with the bounding box.

The TDDP supports following Australian administrative region types:

  • Commonwealth Electoral Divisions

  • Australia’s Bioregions - IBRA (version 7)

  • Australia’s Sub-bioregions - Sub IBRA (version 7)

  • Indigenous Areas

  • Indigenous Regions

  • Indigenous Locations

  • Local Government Areas

  • Natural Resource Management (NRM)

  • States and Territories

Info

users can download and visualise each of the regions from an interactive map at https://linkeddata.tern.org.au/viewers/administrative-areas

Searching by Regions

When searching via the regions facet, users are given multiple options for types of regions options to search by multiple region types (e.g., States and Territories, Bioregions, etc.) , and can then use the sub-region facet to select the specific region they wish to find records for. On selection, the map will zoom to this the selected region and will highlight the region itself. If the user is searching from the Search page, datasets containing records from within the region will be shown as search results beneath the map. If searching from the Search by Map on the TDDP Home page (shown in the screenshot below), the user will need to it. Users can select “View Results” to be redirected to the Search results pagebutton to see all records that intersect with the selected region.

Drawing Shapes on the Map

Users can also search for data by drawing a shape polygon or bounding box on the map. To do this, select the edit image-20250130-012651.pngImage Added button on the map and use either the “Draw Rectangle” Bounding Box” image-20241204-230052.png or “Draw Polygon” image-20241204-230038.png button on the top left of the map. If using the “Draw Polygon” option, each click on the map will add a boundary point for the polygon. To close the polygon, double click where the final point should be located on the map or click on the first point added.
