Abstract or Summary

Compact Airborne Spectrograpic Imagery (CASI) data (14 bands from the visible blue through to the near infrared wavelength regions) were acquired over the West Alligator River on the day month 2002. The mangroves on the landward margin are dominated by Avicennia marina with the taller (> 15 m) central zone occupied primarily by Rhizophora stylosa. Sonneratia alba dominated the seaward margin, with the zone on the seaward margin occupied by a younger growth stage of this species. The best band combination to observe the different mangrove zones if band 14, band 11 and band 1 in RGB.

Sampling strategy

The original data were only acquired for the West Alligator River mangroves. No ground data were obtained at the time of airborne data acquisition.
