How to complete the What tab

The What tab provides fields to describe the data.

Use the Abstract field to provide a synopsis of what the data measures, how, why, where and when it was collected, organisations that were involved in collection or sponsorship and the project name.

Abstract

Describe the data set and provide a brief summary of What, Where, When, Why, Who and How.

Mandatory. This should give a brief overview, more detail should be input in the relevant fields.

Purpose

Provide a brief summary of the purpose for collecting the data including the potential use of the data.

Recommended: Indicate how other researchers could use this data or what topics of study this data supports.

Descriptive keywords

How to complete Research Theme keywords

Research theme keywords, GCMD Science Keywords

Start typing to display a list of science themes and click to select the appropriate keyword for the data.

Mandatory. If the wrong item was selected, click [X] to remove.

Click [Browse] to review the entire list.

Start typing to display a list of research themes and click to select the appropriate keyword for the data.

Mandatory. If the wrong item was selected, click [-] to remove.

Click [Browse] to review the entire list.

How to indicate a Parameter

There are 2 ways to indicate a Parameter.

  • Users can select a Parameter and UoM from the predefined list from the drop down list boxes as in Image 1.

  • Users can also define a Parameters and/or UoM by clicking the Add button, in the event a particular one is not available in the drop down list as in Image 2 and 3

The user can select a parameter from the list. User can also type the first few letters to perform an autofilter

The Unit of Measure is displayed inline with the Parameter.

How to select a Temporal Resolution

This is a mandatory field

Click on the Temporal Resolution section to expand the selection

Then select an appropriate temporal resolution

How to select a Horizontal Resolution

This is a mandatory field

Click on the Horizontal Resolution section to expand the selection

Then select an appropriate horizontal resolution

How to indicate a Platform

Click the Platforms section to expand the selection

There are 2 ways to indicate a Platform.

  • Users can select a Platform from the predefined list from the drop down list boxes as in Image 1.

  • Users can also define a Platform by clicking the Add button, in the event a particular one is not available in the drop down list as in Image 2 and 3

 

How to indicate Instruments

Click the Instruments section to expand the selection

There are 2 ways to indicate a Platform.

  • Users can select a Instrument from the predefined list from the drop down list boxes as in Image 1. The instrument serial number will be populated automatically in the backend

  • Users can also define a Instrument by clicking the Add button, in the event a particular one is not available in the drop down list as in Image 2 and 3

How to select a Vertical Resolution

This is an optional field

Click on the Vertical Resolution section to expand the selection

Then select an appropriate vertical resolution

How to select a Australian Plant Name Index

This is an optional field

Click on the Australian Plant Name index section to expand the selection

Then select an appropriate Plant Name index

How to select a Australian Faunal Directory

This is an optional field

Click on the Australian Faunal Directory section to expand the selection

Then select an appropriate Plant Name index

How to Additional Keywords as free text

This is an optional field

Click on the Additional Keywords section to expand the selection

Enter the keywords as free text.

Then click the Add button

To add another, repeat the process

The entries will look like the image below

 

Click [Save] to store the record.
