Viewing Raster Data in the Landscape Data Visualiser

Following is the high-level flowchart on how to search and visualise raster data collection.

 

When added to the visualiser, raster datasets will show on a map base-layer as shown in the example below.

Once added, users may be able to select different options for viewing the data, including:

View options

Users can select an option to view actual data (labeled as Gridded data) and zonal statistics derived from the data.

Timestep options

In some instance, multiple datasets are published as part of a collection, User will get can option to select a dataset to visualise.

Month and Year options

The time options display the time series of the selected dataset. Users can select any timestamp to view the corresponding map and legends in the visualizer. Clicking a map reveals the actual parameter value at that location.

 

In the above example, when the Timestep option for Sensible Heat Flux for Australia by Scaling Flux Tower Data 2000 to 2023 is selected, users can also choose to show the data as a table, which will generate on top of the map when the “Show data table” button is clicked.

For this dataset, users are also able to view the metadata record on TERN Data Discovery and access the date via the links in the Related Links section.

Additional features for Cloud Optimised GeoTiffs

For raster data with Cloud Optimised Geotiffs (CoG), users can select zonal statistics from the View field, select a zone type by the Timestep field and then click on the map to see the value for each zone.

Users can subset and download raster dataset.

For users wishing to download CoG files, due to the size of these files and the Landscape Data Visualiser’s 1GB file limit for data downloads, a bounding box must be created for the area of interest.
