Minting a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) in EcoImages
Users should choose to mint a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_object_identifier when they wish to use a dataset as part of a published or citable scholarly work. To Mint a DOI, open the Actions menu against the desired data package on the My Downloads page. Select “Mint DOI” and review the confirmation message which appears in a pop up.
Once a DOI is minted, the package can no longer be edited or deleted. Only one DOI can be minted for each package.
To proceed select Mint, or select Cancel to return to the My Downloads page. As part of the minting process, the data package will reprocess. The DOI column on the My Downloads page will show a status of “Minted” for the data package on completion of reprocessing. Users will also receive an email indicating that the package has reprocessed and is available to download once minting has completed.
Once minted, users can click on the data package to expand it to see the new DOI link. Users can access or copy the link from the expanded data package.
Clicking on the DOI link in the expanded package, or the link in the email confirmation of package completion that users will receive, will redirect users to the View Package page. This page shows the full details of the data package.
Returning to the My Downloads page, users will also see that only the View and Download options are selectable from the Actions menu after a DOI has been minted. Edit, Mint DOI and Delete are no longer available as actions once a DOI is minted.
