Accessing Audio Files in EcoAcoustics
When users wish to access wildlife call recordings, EcoAcoustics uses functionality to “package” data into zipped files for download. This functionality allows the user to download the following as a single “package”:
the recording of the wildlife call,
the metadata files associated with the recording, and
the proper citation for the data.
Note that users must be logged into EcoAcoustics in order to create packages and download files.
For information on how to log in or register an account, please refer to https://ternaus.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TERNSup/pages/2732261377.
To download recordings for multiple audio files at a time, users will first need to create a data package. To do this, use the filters to search and then select the records to be downloaded.
Note the selection boxes against records only appear when the search filters have been used. This is due to the number of records within the application. Using the select all function will select either all the records on the page, or the first 100, depending on how many results the user has elected to display per page.
There is also an 8GB download limit per package of data. Users will not be able to select more than 8GB of recordings to download in one go. Depending on the recordings selected, this may be less than the 100 files per package limit.
If users wish to download more than 100 files or 8GB of data, this can be done by creating multiple data packages.
Once records have been selected, users should click “Get Data” to add the records to their data cart. Users will be redirected to the login/sign up page if they have not already logged into EcoAcoustics at this point.
If/once logged in, users will be taken to the data cart and asked to create their data package, by adding a Title and Description. The data cart will also list the records selected as part of the package, allowing users to either proceed by selecting “Request Data” or go back to the search page by selecting “Cancel”.
On selecting “Request Data”, the page will refresh to show the users My Downloads page, with the new package showing the user its status as it processes to create the package and then zip the files for download. The package details can be expanded/collapsed by clicking on the package.
When the files have finished processing, the user will receive an email with a link to the download, as well as see the package with a status of “Available” in their My Downloads page. At this time the Download Queue pop up will appear on the screen, with a summary of the packages available for download. This pop up can be expanded as shown in the screenshot below or closed entirely.
