Searching EcoAcoustics Using Filters
On the search page, users can search for data using the various filters.
These filters include options to refine recordings by:
Country: defaulting to Australia
Regions: contains region types (e.g. State and Territory, WWF Ecoregion) and a sub-filter for sub-region. Note that the Region filter will not appear for Country selections other than Australia.
Date Range: records collected within the date range specified by the user
Field Species Name: the species name determined during the process of field observation. Note this data may include other field notes such as physiological characteristics of the animal observed.
Record Context: the context the identified species of wildlife made the call in, for example for bats, free flying or cave entrance. Note this data is drawn from the Record Context field when recording data is submitted.
File Duration: the length of the recording in seconds
Collected By: the person or people who recorded the call
Identified By: the person or people who identified the species recorded in the call
ID Method: the method used to identify the species recorded in the call
Instrument: the brand or manufacturer, as well as model of the instrument used to record the call
File Type: the format of the audio file (e.g. .wav, .zc)
Advanced Pulse Metrics
The Advanced Pulse Metrics has a series of sub-filters specific to bat calls, including:
Pulse Count (N)
Characteristic Frequency (Fc)
Time-to-Characteristic Section (Tc)
Knee Frequency (Fk)
Time-to-Knee (Tk)
Start Frequency (FStart)
End Frequency (FEnd)
Mean Frequency (FMean)
Minimum Pulse Frequency (FMin)
Maximum Pulse Frequency (FMax)
Pulse Duration (Dur)
Time Between Pulse (TBC)
Characteristic Slope (Sc)
Minimum Slope (SMin)
Maximum Slope (SMax)
Initial Slope (S1)
End Slope (SEnd)
Curvature
Each of the Advanced Pulse Metrics have formal specific definitions. Due to their technical nature, these are not explained within this user guide and users are requested to refer to either Vocabularies | TERN Linked Data Service or https://www.titley-scientific.com/support/glossary-of-terms/ for further details of their meaning and use.
For those filters allowing users to select a range of values via a sliding bar (e.g. Advanced Pulse Metrics), users should note that only results entirely within (or equal to) their specified range will return.
If desired, users can refine results using multiple filters. For filters using a drop down selection or text input, users can also add more than one option to refine by.
To see all filters applied, click the “expand” button in the Current Search section of the screen.
To remove a filter without clearing the whole search, expand the Current Search section and remove the desired filter by selecting the “Clear” button against that filter.
To clear the entire search, use the “Clear Search” button.
