SHaRED: How to complete the Where tab

The Where tab provides features and fields to identify the location and spatial coverage of the data.

Orizontal extent

Complete the following fields:

Provide a site description (optional)

Describe the general location of the study site.

Eg. The Alice Springs Mulga flux station is located on Pine Hill cattle station, near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

Limits (optional)

2 methods:

  1. Click the Add button and enter the coordinates into the pop-up window. For rectangular shapes enter the oordinates or each side; for points enter the same coordinates for North/South and for East/West.

  2. Use the Mapping tool explained below.

Coordinate Reference System (optional)

Select an appropriate reference system. A commom reference system by most hand held GPS is WGS84 - EPSG:4326

 

How to use the mapping tool set

Quadrilateral Draw tool

Click and drag to draw a rectangle

Click and drag the cross hair from beginning point diagonally to mark a four sided polygon area.

The longitude and latitude of the location will be shown as per below:

Click to select the icon and pin a point on the map

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Any amendments to the coordinates using the Mapping tools will be reflected under the Limits section, displaying the longitude and latitude of the location as per below:

 

Use this tool to edit the points created with above tools

Once this icon is clicked, the points on the map will be highlighted.

 

Select either the location map

or the polygon on the map that needs to be amended/changed

Location map - Click, Drag and drop at required location

Polygon -

  1. Click the ends to reshape the polygon

OR

2. Click the center of the polygon to move the entire shape.

 

 

This icon will delete the Location on map or the polygon as required.

 

Vertical extent

Complete the following fields to describe the vertical extent of the data:

Vertical Coordinate Reference System

Select an appropriate coordinate reference system

If a vertical coordinate reference system is selected, the Minimum and Maximum extends are required

Minimum

Type the minimum vertical extent of the data in metres.

Values should be greater than 0 and mandatory if the Vertical Coordinate Reference System is selected

Maximum

Type the maximum vertical extent of the data in metres.

Select an appropriate attribute

 

Value

Enter the value greater than 0

The unit of measure is automatically assigned based on the resolution attribute selected

Click [Save] to store the record.
