The File Transfer function within CoESRA allows the easy movement of data between a user’s local computer and the CoESRA virtual desktop. There are two ways to make file transfers: drag and drop and using the File Transfer panel.
Drag and Drop
Drag the file that you wish to transfer from your local desktop to the CoESRA virtual desktop. A notification dialog box will appear in the lower right corner of the screen containing progress bars. Once the transfer has finished, it can be dismissed by clicking “Clear”.
File Transfer Panel
The File Transfer tab opens the Guacamole menu that allows users to access various different more advanced features of the virtual desktop including accessing the virtual desktop’s clipboard, viewing the Linux terminal and customising input methods. For most users, its most useful function is transferring files between the local computer and the virtual desktop. An overview of the process is provided below.
1. Open the File Transfer panel
From within the CoESRA virtual desktop, click the File Transfer tab on the far right of the sceen. A new panel will open on the left of the screen.
2. Select the device
Click the drive path name under ‘Devices’. A list will open that will allow users to choose where the uploaded files will be saved within their CoESRA virtual desktop.
3. Select a destination
Highlight by clicking a folder then double click to open that folder. (The current file path is shown above the contents of the folder and starts with a hard disk icon).
We suggest that users upload to either their Desktop or Documents folders.
Click the “Upload Files” button.
[Please note that you must open the folder where you wish to upload your file, not just highlight it].
4. Select the files to upload
Click the ‘Upload Files’ button to select the files from your local machine that you wish to transfer to your virtual desktop. Click “Open” to start the upload process.
5. Close the File Transfer panel
When you have finished uploading files, click “Close File Transfer” to close.
When the files have finished uploading, a notification dialog box will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. This can be dismissed by clicking “Clear”.
The files have now been uploaded into the virtual desktop and can be accessed in the location specified in step 3 (above).
Please be aware that using the FileTransfer panel may be a more time consuming option than if you already have your data stored in the cloud (ie. in Dropbox) and only need to download it into your CoESRA desktop.
The File Transfer function also allows small amounts of text data to be copied and pasted between the local and virtual environments.
