The Data Sources tab allows users to upload small data files or to identify the location of a data service.

You can upload files directly in the following ways:

Once your files have finished uploading, they will be listed, all uploaded files need title.

The title will appear on the metadata record. It should allow identifying the content of the file. If your file had already been labelled in a way that allows clear identification (as in the example above) the title can be the same as the file name. To Hence, the title should be relevant and self-explanatory to the data it represents.

User can change their mind and delete a file from the list , click by clicking the [x] on the right-hand side.

Thumbnail

The thumbnail will be used in the metadata record for illustrative purposes. The image should describe the data included in the dataset or the particular environment studied. To upload a thumbnailallows you to upload a small image that represents the dataset. This is more relevant to the raster datasets:

  1. Drag an image of not more than 3 Mb into the area specified for thumbnails.

  2. Provide a Title for the thumbnail.

Data services

Data services include files hosted on a web site, a THREDDS Server or delivered via a web service. Click website, web services and data servers like THREDDS. This option can be used if:

  • Users are hosting data on standard web services and data servers, including WMS, WFS, WCS, THREDDS and even restful web service

  • The record refers to an ongoing dataset already hosted by a Data Service.

To add a Data Service, click the [Add] button and complete the following fields in the pop-up window:

Title

Input a title for the datasetMandatory. The Title is a required field if a Data Service is included.

Protocol

Select the protocol from the list

Mandatory.

URL Address

Type or paste copy the URL to access the where data is hosted.

Layer Name

Input the name if If the data is provided via a web coverage service (WCS) or web map service (WMS) specify the layer.

Mandatory for WCS or WMS service types.

Distributor’s Organisation

By default, it is set to TERN. This value can be changed by selecting an input from the selection listNot a mandatory fieldIf TERN does not host the data, please enter organisation where data is hosted from the selected list.

Data file format

This field allow users to specify the file format for the data, e.g. CSV, NetCDF etc.

Data file format date/version

This field allow users to specify the date or version of the file format.

Click [Save] to store the input , or [Cancel] to ignore the input. The Add Data services window closes.
